The Debt Ceiling and The Collective Consciousness

Judie Brierly - Monday, August 01, 2011
Greeting from Doc Judie
" Washington strikes deal on debt ceiling"....reads all the headlines, but it is still conditioned about the approval from the House and the Senate tomorrow.  This blog is not about which side I am pulling for, I am actually pulling for the art of compromise, much the same way I work with couples on marriage resolution issues. If you really listen to both sides, there is merit in all sides, so how does it come together? I am making a prediction,,,IT WILL HAPPEN!

Perhaps there is a bigger picture that surpasses the ego of the parties.  Imagine just for a minute, that they are not manic, driven politicians, but actually decent people (for the most part) who passionately believe in doing what is best for the country.  Perhaps they really do go home at night and worry, pray and toss and turn all night not wanting the country to go into financial default  It seems impossible when I listen to the media that just fills me with fear and doubt.  So maybe these men and women go home and ask their higher powers to help them figure out the mess, to find common ground, and maybe they are able to sleep with the hope that tomorrow will bring a solution.  That is called the collective consciousness.

The collective consciousness is having a collective thought that many share for a common goal in society. It is found in prayer circles where people get together and pray for peace. It is connecting through the mind much like the 'mind melt" of the Star Trek series It is wanting something so bad that a group of people focus on the solution and do not let the road blocks get in the way.
So if I was setting up group hypnotherapy sessions for the congressmen and women, I would have them get very still for just a few minutes (it better be a short session, can you imagine holding this group any longer than 20 minutes!) During the session, they are on a break from the problems at hand.  They are on a state of the art jet that can take them anywhere that they want to go, and the problems are not welcome.  To start the jet, they point toward the direction they want to go and breathe deeply. Taking in healing restful oxygen that will relax and refresh their brain and tired body  After ten deep breathes they are off.  Immediately their bodies relax and their minds clear guiding the jet to the journey of their dreams.  They are flying out of the Sunday night sky into the Monday sunrise, it is spectacular. Bright, big, and a promise that things will get better.  They suddenly look to see a co-pilot sitting in the cockpit next to them, it is a member of the opposite party!!!
It is a nightmare and suddenly they can't agree on anything, which direction to fly in, the altitude or how to land. The vacation seems to be ruined.  Suddenly from the radio comes a booming voice and it says: " You only have one hour of fuel left" the controls will jam if there is not a bi-partisan  agreement on how you will land, your destination, and it must be done in the time allotted  That is all....the voice leaves and the only choice is to use their collective consciousness, their mutual will to survive, believing that it is more important to agree than disagree because the consequences are the end of their life as they know it.  So the plane lands....that is how it will happen tomorrow, or Tuesday I will have a big blank blog with the word Oops! and a picture of plane crash!   Try this exercise in your own unresolved issues-decide to compromise or crash!

New amino L-Theanine and hypnosis

New amino acid L theanine and hypnosis
Greetings from Doc Judie
In my practice, I do more than just use hypnosis, which is a delivery system. It has to be connected to a therapeutic message. So I use a combination of counseling, hypnosis to deliver the therapy message, and nutritional information on healing the body.  I love amino acid therapy as aminos are natural proteins that make up most of the body mass. Through stress, addictions, depression, and anxiety the body and brain lose many of the vital aminos necessary for normal functions.  Sometimes, a little boost is needed to "teach the mind how to cope and learn to  make dopamine and serotonin, and amino acids are a great aid.  The best news is that because the amino acids are natural to the body, nothing artificial is added to the system.  So when I do an intake on a new client, I look at the mind and body from all angles to see what is needed. Sometimes it is really "all in the head" and sometimes "it is in the body," usually it is both, so why just treat from one angle when all parts need to be addressed.
I am excited about an amino acid called L-Theanine which has been around since China first learned about the calming properties in tea.  L-Theanine is a free form amino acid found in green tea and various mushrooms. It has been shown to increase tranquilizing Alpha waves without inducing drowsiness. Clinical trials show that L-Theanine diminishing symptoms of PMS improving learning performance
  • heightening mental acuity
  • promoting concentration
  • supporting the immune system

lowering blood pressure increasing formation of the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA

increasing brain dopamine levels among other positive benefits with no known downside.

  • helping in the treatment of cancer

I recently suggested the use of L-Theanine to a client who was suffering from anxiety attacks and General Anxiety Disorder.  Her blood pressure was up, it was hard for her to drive to my office, and as she told her story, she became agitated and cried throughout the session. By the second session, one week on L-Theanine, her blood pressure was done, she was calm, and was responsive to the hypnotherapy session I will be selling it to my on-line clients very soon.  It is under the name "Tea-Zen "meditation in a bottle" 240 capsules for $45.00.  Let me know if you are interested.  Look on the side bar for a complete list of amino products which should be up by the end of the week.

    Adaptation not Balance!
    Greetings from Doc Judie
I just listened to a series by Carolyn Myss, a favorite medical intuitive. Carolyn talks about the archetypes, the l6 basic personality traits (both enlightened and shadows) which are used in the Myer Briggs personality sorter. This is not anything new, it goes back to Plato, a way of classifying people's basic traits.  It is a start, but I do not like to pigeonhole people, even when I do administer personality tests, I explain that "this is the answer today, it can change in different situations." Carolyn really was down on "new age theories" of wanting it all, all about me, bringing more stuff to me,me,me and I think she is right.
After awhile the terms, I owe it to my self, I deserve it, I will bring it all to me gets a little boring and shallow.
Carolyn's message was never to think you can be in balance, the world is not a balancing act, but ups and downs. Rather take a "Mother Theresa stance" and make do. Get out of yourself and start thinking about other people, the earth is a big family and everyone needs the basics of life.  The other message was to stop thinking that "life should be good to you," Carolyn went on to say "what makes you think you are so special that you will never get sick, lose a love one, go broke, or prolong life.  It may all work out that way, but often it does not, it is random chance with the best of planning. So acceptance really helps the psyche when things do not work in our favor.  It does not mean you accept bad health, losing your home and never aging. It means you accept the condition as it is and then do something about it.  It may work out, or it may not.

For me it is fighting the aging process.  I am mildly vain, I exercise, swim, hike, color my hair and wear makeup.  It makes me feel better.  I don't mind the wrinkles, and I can put up with the extra pounds, but losing my strength to garden and pick up my grand babies makes me crazy!  So I do what I can, and then accept the fact that I am close to 70 years old.
I incorporate my new outlook by reading the poem called Desiderata, hope you like it.

    Desiderata

-- written by Max Ehrmann in the 1920s --
Not "Found in Old St. Paul's Church"! -- see below

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons.
    Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
    and listen to others,
    even to the dull and the ignorant;
    they too have their story.
    Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
they are vexatious to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter,
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
    Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs,
for the world is full of trickery.
    But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection.
    Neither be cynical about love,
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment,
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

    Beyond a wholesome discipline,
    be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe
    no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life,
    keep peace in your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
    Strive to be happy.

Things are not as they seem...
    Greetings from Doc Judie
    Dec 042008

This is an actual photo, not photoshopped.

The stork is not at the same altitude as the contrail, it’s actually quite a bit lower.   It’s the same thing when you see two planes, one making a contrail, and one not – they are just at different altitudes. Now what does this have to do with my blog on hypnotherapy.  Often people come in with the complaint that their spouse, mate, partner is "a monster" it is easy to form an opinion on one testimony, but the story often changes when you hear from the other side Even "the complaint" changes when both parties are in the room. So in this highly charged time that we are all living through, make sure that your thinking is clear and that you are not reacting to your own personal bias that you think is THE TRUTH!
Let me give you a personal example.
I heard about a talented yoga instructor who gave her time "as a gift" to seniors in a near by community at their senior center  People raved about this spiritual woman who was so gentle in her approach, yet had you bending like a pretzel by the end of the 1.5 hr class held twice a week.  I decided to check her out as my rotator cuff and stiff knee made it difficult for me to exercise.

I was also a little groggy as my little cottage harbored a summer home for skunks under the porch and the smell was right by the coat closet.  I reached in quickly and retrieved my yoga mat, swearing at the skunks, and was on my way to the yoga class.

It was packed with "old people" who were not in great shape.  They shuffled in, with their hunched backs, stiff knees, and shaky limbs. The place smelled like urine and I was not too comfortable.  However as the class started, those "old people" kicked my 68 year old butt!  They had been doing yoga for years with their leader and their bodies flowed as if they were dancing.  What a beautiful testimony on how to keep your body moving.  I was impressed, but still could not get over my preadjust of the smell of urine...until I got in  my car and drove off after the class ended.  The "nasty smell" lingered in the air, and I realized that I was the cause of the odor. The skunk smell had permeated my yoga mat!!!  So there I was, younger than anyone in the class and could not completely keep up, and the "stinky one in the corner" Gee, I hope they let me come back!!!
Check out your stinin' thinkin' and know that 90 % of all of our thoughts are crap! So think it through before you react.

    Glove anesthesia for pain control

     Glove anesthesia for pain control

    Greetings from Doc Judie

I recently fell on a slippery spa floor and tore my rotor cuff, owie!  I am using  glove anesthesia hypnosis technique for my pain control.
I have helped so many people with  acute and  chronic injuries by using this suggestion, and it was very useful for me help with my own pain control.  There have been recent studies showing that touching an injured part and softly rubbing it can turn off the pain centers and help with healilng. This is basically the theory behind pain relief hypnosis scripts.

This technique has been used since World War 1 when the troops in the field were injured and there was not enough pain-killer medication on the site.  The  medics, nurses and doctors would often use self-hypnosis for pain control until they could move their injured soldiers off the field.

Today, hypnosis has become an invaluable medical adjunct.  It helps mothers to have painless childbirth experiences, and allows physicians to administer a fraction of the usual chemical anesthetics used in surgical procedures. It is also a way to control every day localized pain from a burnt finger to a bruised knee.

The  technique is not to be used in every instance.  Common sense of checking with your physician to see what "your pain is telling you" should be your first instinct.  in my case, surgery was not necessary, and the pain will go away with time, anti-inflammatories, exercise or a little help from my own self-hypnosis.  Here is now it works:

Hypnotic suggestions actually alter the way the brain interprets messages of pain.  The brain manufactures morphine-like
chemicals called endorphins. These chemicals are a major part of the body's natural defense system and hypnosis is used to allow endorphins to be released producing a natural  narcotic.  It is done through a direct communication with the subconscious mind where healing and pain relief can take place.

There are several scripts that you can look up, but the common one is called Glove anesthesia.
When my client is in trance, I put my hand over their hand.  I tell them that in a few minutes they will feel their hand getting very warm.  I keep repeating this and give my client the suggestion that they can feel the intense heat from my own hand going into theirs.  I wait for a couple of minutes, and I can usually feel their hand warming up.(many therapists use the reverse and have the hand feel icy cold-I like heat better)  When the temperature has changed in the hand they can put it over the injured part of their body if they can reach it or if it is appropriate. (nobody wants to grab their butt in our out of trance!). They can just imagine the part they would like to numb or feel th leaving the body.
" Imagine that the nerves that connect to (injured part) are controlled by switches in your brain. Now see your hand turn the switch that controls those nerves that cause pain to the "off position." Your warm hand is so soothing, it is pulling the pain away from your (body part) .  You will feel your pain slowly leaving you.  Perhaps some of the pain will leave, and perhaps as you repeat this technique most of the pain will completely go away and you will feel relief."  I am helping with the pain, feel my warm hand on top of yours, and together we are directing the pain centers to turn off as we pull it away from your body through our healing hands."
    "
Another suggestion that I use: You can also direct the pain "through colors" such as when you feel relief, the pain will go from burning red to a neutral yellow to a cool blue. Let me know what color you can tolerate and what color you are feeling right now! You can use an ideomotor response or ask them to use their voice.

Try this technique yourself for headaches, bruises, sprains etc. that just take time to heal, but hurt like.......!  Use self hypnosis techniques breathe deeply, long and slow.  When you feel relaxed, put both of your hands (if possible) over the injured part, or just imagine that you are doing this.  Direct a temperature change that works for you, either warm and soothing, or cool and numbing the spot like a bag of ice.  Keep concentrating on the injury and ask for a change in the pain centers or see your hands like a sponge pulling out the pain.

So here is to your "owies" little and large

    Success through hypnosis

    Greetings from Doc Judie

You have no idea of how many clients come in and state "I am not very successful!" They often cite Malcomn Gladwell's
Outliers, The Story of Success and have come up short because according to Gladwell, it takes 10,000 hours to be successful at anything  They have not put in 10,000 hours into anything, ever!  The point of the book is well taken, it is sticking to a program, developing expertise and spending time to perfect your craft.  Most of the people that are successful are not an instant success, they have been at their craft or trade for a few years and work at it.

Perhaps you are looking for a few hypnotherapy sessions to "shortcut the system" or maybe you don't want to be Bill Gates or Warren Buffet, maybe you just want to improve your golf game, pass a test or lose a few lbs; that could be your very accurate version of "success!"

So here are a few general rules that most of my successful clients have taught me! Thats right, they are better than I am and I learn, modify, and copy them all the time!  From a pilot who lost 125 lbs, to a Olympic contender who has to stay focused, to a single mother trying to figure out how to support herself and her baby, to a cancer survivor, this is what they have in common:

1.All success comes from internal motivation, will and drive.  You may be afraid, but if you want the goal and will work on it even if you are afraid, you will be successful.
    2. Be prepared.  This comes in many forms. For people on a diet, they have to change their eating habits and exercise.  For the athletics, it requires hours of practice, for the person passing a test, they have to study and know the material, for the mother looking for a job, she has to keep going to interviews or build up her experience, and for the cancer survivor, they have to take care of their body and make wellness a priority and persevere what they have left.
    3. They were all willing to make a plan and stick with it through journaling   Journaling moves your brain in a different direction, slows you down and makes you focus and be accountable. (It gets self defeating to write "0" in the column on what did you do today? You will finally "do something" to fill in the box!
    4. They learn to relax-finally, this is where I come in.  To relax means to free your mind from the monkey brain, the clutter, the self-sabotaging thoughts that hold you back from your goal.  I often blog about breathing deeply into your belly for one minute, approximately 10 breaths.  You visualize that you are breathing through your heart, opening up for new possibilities wellness, and "success!"
    5. Stay on track, and don't get discouraged when you slip, just start again.  The setback was yesterday's news, today is a new day.
    6. Stick with the program for 30 days and review your journal and your success  You will either be very happy with the change, know you are on your way, or look at your journal in black and white and see that your success was connected to how much effort you put into the program.
Ah! It is so inspiring to have my clients say "I made it' I reached my goal, I am on my way!  They did it, I am doing it, and you can too!

Tapping into a new vibration through hypnosis

    Greetings from Doc Judie
I have blogged about tapping in the past, but would like to revisit the subject with some new observations from my clients and information from Carol Look, specialist in tapping techniques, or Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT).
Carol Look is an  Emotional Freedom Technique practitioner. she describes EFT as  a form of psychological acupressure that uses a gentle tapping technique instead of needles to stimulate traditional Chinese acupuncture points to move energy that is stuck in the neuro-pathways, or meridians.  Carol  taps on the designated points along with verbalizing the identified problem followed by a general affirmations phase, the energy system balances often relieve psychological stress and pain, states Long.
Here are some of the tapping points:
Tap on the face and body, and then move to the hand  By using a karate chop type of motion to the side of the hand and tapping on the inside of the wrist and each finger.  Along with the tapping, you must use a series of words to change the vibration from negative to positive thinking.

The script: "Even though I have fear (such as I have no $$$) I completely accept myself  Repeat the phrase while tapping on each spot five ties.
The first few times I tried this technique, I could not stop laughing.  First of all it tickled and I found certain tap
ping spots (especially by my lips and under my arms irritating!)   I found it ritualistic, and too airy-fairy for my scientific mindset.
However, it started to relieve my stress, and when I tapped for "chocolate" I no longer wanted to eat it.  So I will not waste your time with "proof" on how it works.  I really don't have concrete evidence, but for many of my clients and myself, there was a shift in behavior.  Long says it works better than "talk therapy for her" as it physically moves the energy around.

For those of you who read my blogs, you know that I view hypnosis as a wonderful therapeutic tool and it blends with so many other healing modalities.  Tapping is no exception.  When my clients learn to relax through a hypnosis session, they are more receptive to tapping.  I never tap on the first session, I usually let my clients get use to relaxation and then I add it to my program.  It has been a great help for over eating, smoking, alcohol and anxiety.  Give it a try, easy to learn and most report it is a lot of fun, interesting, and amazed at the outcome.  Like anything new, it is not for everyone. There are a few clients that "don't like being touched and do not enjoy the experience." Many ways to the pathway of the mind, just try another technique.

I can't find my keys! Finding things through hypnosis

    Greetings from Doc Judie

I just did this exercise with a friend of mine and I thought i would share it with you.  How often do you rush to the car only to find that your keys are nowhere to be found! Very frustrating.  Of course you pull out the spare, but the "main set" has your favorite silver good luck charm on and everything else that is important to you; your mail box key, your gym locker key, your house key-ouch!

The first thing you do is to calm down. Do this when you have 20 minutes to spare.  If you are suddenly losing things, more than likely you are in a stressful state, multi-tasking, and chasing a hectic schedule.  So sit back or lie down.  For just a few minutes, clear your mind and take a mini-mental vacation from life.  Do 10 rounds of deep breathing, in through your nose and exhale deeply through your mouth.  Imagine that you are emptying out a balloon when you exhale, really go deep into your belly.  Now think of anything that is bothering you and see where it lands on your brain or body. Where do you feel tightness or pain? Blow some nice relaxing energy into those affected parts and imagine the soreness or distressed points breaking up and you will feel relief.

Now just enjoy where you are, take yourself to someplace pleasant, without any stress, without a schedule, without a thousand things to take care of....can you see it? A mountain cabin? A seaside cottage?  Wherever it is, enjoy the adventure....by this time you just start to really unwind, your logical mind will pop back in and remind you that "you can't get to the vacation cabin without the car keys!" Time to address the obvious.  Think back to the last time you had the keys in your hand.  Feel the shapes of the keys, and hear the sound that they make when they hit the desk, your purse, your pocket. Do not use your conscious mind to "figure it out" it will only give you logical information, and your keys may not be in a logical place.  Ask your fingers instead to connect to your subconscious.  If you remember having the keys in your hand in the morning, raise your index finger.  If you don't remember, raise your thumb.  Take yourself through all the places that you remember and your fingers will float to the surface without you thinking it through. Ask your fingers for location; did I have them in the car? in the house? in the gym?  You will notice a hesitation when your subconscious gives your fingers a clue, don't try to figure it out, just keep asking.  When you have exhausted your questions or when you naturally feel it's time to end your journey, slowly get up and put the key finding adventure aside.  If you truly misplaced your keys, your subconscious will continue to work on the outcome.  If they fell out of your pocket, or if someone picked them up, obviously there will not be a response except the last time your subconscious remembers the keys in your position.

The results will suprise you.  Remember the subconscious does not necessarily go direct, it rambles around concentrating more on the feelings of the keys, when you use them, how they feel and what they mean to you.

The answer may jump up at you immediately such as "I was reading the paper and they were on the kitchen table..."
You may find them under the newspaper!  Maybe nothing will happen until later that eve. or the next day-go where your subconscious directs you even if it does not make sense to your logical mind.

My friend tore her house up, contacted stores and the gym, but after the exercise, she found them outside,  left on a fence post while she dumped the garbage!

Give it a try, trust your sub conscious and see what pops up!

Now my turn,  time to take my own advice: " I can't find my office keys!"   Breathe! Let go and they will appear!!!

    I garden, therefore I am

    Greetings from Doc Judie
Maybe I can get those ducks to come to my water garden!
Memorial Day weekend is the start of the garden season in my hometown of Genoa, Nevada. I am located at the base of the Sierra Foothills, where the old timers warn never to plant until after Memorial Day!

It is then a race to the most beautiful garden center, the Greenhouse Nursery. The nursery is located in Carson City, where the following friendly advise is given." Plant corn, potatoes, asparagus & summer bulbs early this month. Plant around the 1st of June if you have the correct microclimate or are just adventurous. The last frost for many years has been Memorial Day weekend, so be prepared to cover the garden with cloth for greater protection. Plastic does almost nothing."

I am a believer, the Greenhouse Nursery has replaced the Dali Lami, Bible Study, and any and all social gatherings for awhile.  I am on a mission, I have purpose, I have dirt and I have seeds!  Anyone who knows me will know where to find me in the month of June-in the garden.

Now I know I am sounding over the top with enthusiasm, but there is sound reasoning behind what I do.  The benefits of gardening have physical, mental, and spiritual benefits. I drop 10 pounds and  two sizes every summer!  In the winter, I turn into such a wimp, I huff and puff when I have to carry more than two grocery bags into the house from the car. However, something snaps when I am gardening, I only see the task at hand and do whatever it takes.  I can dig in the dirt all day, sling 50 pounds of fertilizer over my shoulder and stretch out a bale of fence wire.

Now if you are not a believer in hypnosis, try gardening to put you into an altered state! I lose time, I get lost in the beautifl forms of the flowers and plants I am in aromatherapy heaven when planting basil, cilantro and lavender.  The scents mix with the overgrown lilac bushes and I feel intoxicated!

In the garden, it is not safe for cell phones.  I don't need music.  I don't want chatter.  I enjoy the wind chimes which softly hit notes in the breeze.  I love to feel rich fertile soil and break it up with my fingers.  I feel energized with the warm sun on my back and I tingle when the cold irrigation water from the ditch rushes over my garden clogs.  It is almost sensual. (O.K. not quite there are some things that potatoes and rutabagas just can't do!).

In the garden, my problems do not make it past the weathered garden gate. The bills, the appointments, the phone calls are on the other side.  I will get to them in a little while. When I am in the garden, I am finding my balance, adjusting my attitude and resetting my biostat.

I often state that I am not a "healer," but a facilitator to help people when they are stuck or feeling sad or overwhelmed.   Nature on the other hand is a true healer.  Try gardening, hiking, or sailing on a lake.Go outside where humans really belong. Try your hand in the garden.  Discover flowers, home grown vegetables, and fruit bearing trees.  Breathe fresh air and like my little seeds, you too will start to bloom.

Here's to your mental and physical health.
