Increase your eudaimonia (happiness) through hypnosis

Greetings from Doc Judie

If you have read through a few of my blogs, you will notice that the constant theme is to make your life more fulfilling, not just treat mental illness or talk about all the things that are "wrong" with you, The emphasis of my practice is to bring out your "Potential"  thus, the name Hypnotherapy Potential. Hypnosis is the tool that I use to convey the positive message, "there is so much right with you!"

Happiness, fulfilment, finding 'your true self," enjoyment, self -esteem are all part of happiness or eudaimonia, (the greek term).  The Greeks believed that to be eudaimon is to live well, to be protected and looked after by a benevolent spirit. of happiness.

.This type of positive thinking is usually connected with humanistic psychologists in the past such as Abraham Maslow, Carl Rogers, and  Milton Erickson.   Most of the top positive motivation speakers in the country such as Depak Chopra, Wayne Dyer Marianne Williams use this approach and re-work the message from the original authors.

  Recently, (the past six years) Positive Psychology , has been brought into main stream practice through the work of its' founder, Martin Seligman. Positive  psycholgy is taught in many colleges from Harvard to Penn State. This is  the discipline that I use in my hypnotherapy practice because I believe it is the best approach for reaching people in pain,  it is the most effective way to change behavior over a period of time with lasting results and it can save lives!

.Let me explain, when people are in a stressful situation for a long period of time, stress chemicals such as cortisol drip from the brain stem into the body and can do permanent harm if not turned around. There is an article by Barbara Fredrickson The undoing effect of positive emotions, where the author hypothesizes that positive emotions undo the cardiovascular effects of negative emotions. When people are experiencing stress, they show increased heart rate, higher blood sugar, immune suppression, and other adaptations optimized for immediate action. If these conditions are not regulated, once stress has passed, it can lead to illness, coronary heart disease, and heightened morality. When positive emotions are taught to help people who were previously under stress, they can relax back to their physiological baselilne.

So take care of yourself, learn to relax and know that you can turn your pain around by getting a little eudaimonia in your life..."don't worry, be happy." You will live longer.
