Talk to your "almond" amyglada through hypnosis

Last blog I talked about visiting an old cemetery, the resting place for three generations of my relatives. It made me realize that I walk the earth because of their survival skills.
II never believed in reincarnation as it is "too pat" and I don't think you have to pay for the sins of the past. It reminds me of people who feel that little babies really do inherit the "sins of the father" and need Baptism to wash away the sins. I see all of this as symbolic, not literal. Yet, there is a part of me that buys into the theory that we do have our ancestors in our DNA, it was their survival skills that brought us into the world through a strong egg ad sperm union. We look and act the way we do because of the millions of genetic possibilities that came from our ancestors. So can we understand our own strengths, passions, desires, and even fears by understanding our heritage and the ancient part of our brain where the memory is stored. So much of what we feel goes back to our ancestors.
Perhaps this is my version of "reincarnation." It is just a theory, but perhaps our fears come from the guardians in our past that stood at the edge of the camp and listened for tigers. Perhaps our daredevils and risk takers were the front line soldiers and explorers in history. All those feelings and skill sets are stored in the amyglada the small almond shaped portion of the brain.
Under hypnosis, a person's amygdala is turned down, A highly trained hypnotherapist can relax the autonomic nervous system by using hypnosis. Turning off the amygdala disables a typical "fight, flight, or freeze" response and stops any emotional triggers that may occur. The good thing about turning off the amygdala is that it allows the body and the body's immune system time to heal.
At a recent ASCH conference, Dr. David Spiegel spoke about hypnosis and the brain. He said that although we do not fully understand how hypnosis interacts with the brain, we do know "that hypnosis can be effective in helping people reach into their own unconscious resources to solve problems normally beyond their ability. Not only does it work, but it often succeeds where modern medicine has failed."
So when I am feeling a little stressed, overworked or worried, I go into a self-hypnosis script and I talk to my ancestors who I imagine live in "the almonds." Sometimes I have fun talking to the elders, sometimes, I ask for help. My script usually goes something like this:
"O.K. wise old men and women..."I am feeling a little scared about the economy, I have a lot of people to take care of and so many of them are losing their homes, their families and their health Who in my group has the answers for me? Which ones where the medicine women, the doctors, the shamans, the caretakers? What did you say way back in Sicily when that part of the world was so bad that you sent your 14 and 15 year old kids over to America on a boat to start a new life? I know you made it because I am here. I have to use the wisdom that lives in me and figure it out. I then do deep breathing and stay very quiet. I never have visions, I don't hear voices, but in the quiet "I feel gentle arms around me" and I am comforted that some dear Italian great great grandmother who helped people. She is telling me I will know what to do.
See if it works for you, or if your ancestral wisdom calms you down or directs you. Regardless of the story line and imagery, the amyglada does turn off and the body and mind heal.
Here's to your mental and physical health
say hi to your relatives for me
