My Auntie Mabel's "Happiness Genes"
Greetings from Doc Judie
When you look at your family tree, you will notice that some relatives are "happier" than others. In my case, the happiness genes definitely landed in my dad's gene pool. He was almost annoying to those of us who do not possess the extreme happiness genes. He would wake up early, put on the coffee, make breakfast, and start singing! This is how he started out, the baby boy raised along with his four brothers by his big sister, my Auntie Mabel.
Mabel was the "queen of the happiness genes." Mabel was the aunt most welcome in my family. She was the light of my father's life and my mothers best friend. Mabel had a bright beautiful smile, a twinkle in her eye, and thick lush brown hair. Mabel died at 103 1/2 years of age. She still had all of her original teeth and a full head of thick hair. She was so extraordinary in so many ways. She remembered every one of my birthdays, always a sweet card with a detailed loving message, she made my favorite dress and coat when I was a teen ager, and taught me how to bake an apple cake and drink out of my very own fine bone china cup (as I always admired hers). I can close my eyes and remember her garden: Rows of blue delphiniums planted along the fence, and hedges of flowering jasmine, sweet bright oranges, and tart yellow lemons. It had a magical quality.
So here is to the 'Auntie Mabel" in your life. The ones who makes you smile, laugh, and yes even "sing early in the morning.?" They are your treasures. They will teach you what a good life is all about.
Here's to your happiness
